KENT CHAN (b. 1984, Singapore) is an artist, curator and filmmaker based in Netherlands and Singapore. He completed his BA (Hons) in Film at LASALLE College of Arts, Singapore, and holds an MFA from the Sandberg Institute, Netherlands.
Chan’s practice revolves around our encounters with art, fiction and cinema that form a triumvirate of practices—porous in form, content and context. He holds particular interest in tropical imagery, the past and the future relationships between heat and art, and contestations to the legacy of modernity as the epistemology par excellence. His works have taken the form of moving-image, text, performances, and exhibitions.
He was selected as the artist-in-residence at Art Explora, Paris in France (to December 2024) and was recently featured in a solo show, Solar Masses at A.I. in London (2024). His works are in both private and public collections including Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, Germany; Kadist Foundation, USA; Rijkscollectie, The Netherlands and BonnefantenMuseum, The Netherlands.
