Weixin Quek Chong (b. Singapore, 1988) works with image, objects, audiovisual and at times performative elements to play with perception and tantalise the senses. From an interest in dichotomies between digital and organic, monumental and minuscule, human and nonhuman, and other constructed binaries, her artistic concerns have expanded into looking at the construction of value systems and social interfaces, always alluded to and grounded in a materially expressive form.
Her recent projects are inspired by processes of transformation in the biodiverse world and in how people present themselves, as well as cyborgian adaptation- incorporating sensorial-based explorations that frequently involve tactility, sound, and the aim of creating immersive environments.
Weixin received her MA from the Royal College of Art (London) in 2014 and her BA(Hons) from LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore), and works between Madrid, Singapore and London.
She has presented projects in Singapore, London, Seoul, Santiago, Yogyakarta, Taipei and Brussels among other cities and is an alumni of artist residencies in the Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art (Korea), NTU-Center for Contemporary Art (Singapore), Museo de Arte Contemporaneo-Molten Capital in Santiago, Chile and is a co-founder of artist-run space soft/WALL/studs.
