Pass the Mic Episode 5 | Haffendi Anuar on Simryn Gill

‘Pass the Mic’ is an Art & Market vodcast series about generations in Southeast Asian art. In the first season, each episode features a contemporary artist discussing the work of a Southeast Asian artist who has come before them, reflecting on its influence on their practice.

In the fifth and final episode of the season, London-based Malaysian artist Haffendi Anuar speaks about Simryn Gill, who was born in Singapore, grew up in Malaysia and moved to Australia in the mid-1990s.

In particular, Haffendi talks about the Port Dickson connection that he shares with Simryn, the impact that her series ‘Dalam’ (2001) from the Singapore Art Museum Collection and ‘Roadkill’ (2000) from the Art Gallery of New South Wales Collection have had on his practice, as well as his current online exhibition ‘Rintangan’ at Richard Koh Fine Art, on view until 24 September.
