Fluid Transitions was three years in the making.
Performance artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen and fashion designer Shone Puipia were introduced in 2020 for a collaboration. They began working together to develop a response to works in the UOB Southeast Asia Gallery, including Brenda Fajardo’s Baraha ng Pilipino and Mella Jaarsma’s Saya Goreng Kamu II. Their creative discussions continued even as the world continued to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic and ever-changing regulations.
This performance collaboration considers how artists can make art by drawing on resources such as textiles and rituals, or adopting the interdisciplinary approaches of video and performance, to make art. Dressed in a striking costume designed by Puipia, Cuenca will journey through Galleries 12 and 14 of UOB Southeast Asia Gallery as she delivers some of her powerful spoken word performances including The Artist’s Song and EgoSong.
Cuenca and Puipia will present another iteration of this work in Bangkok in May 2023.
