In conversation with WeiXin Chong, Niru Ratnam (curator, START fair director & director of Prudential Eye Awards) and FAD magazine
Niru Ratnam, curator of This Is Tomorrow at START (Saatchi Gallery) & director of Prudential Eye Awards together with emerging Singaporean artist, WeiXin Chong, and Mark Westall from FAD magazine explore the topic of emerging artists & international emerging scenes. The second edition of START, presented by Prudential, is held at Saatchi Gallery between 10-13 September 2015. Its aim is to shine a spotlight on emerging artists and new art scenes.
Represented by A.I., Singaporean emerging artist WeiXin Chong (b.1988) shares about her work on exhibition at the fair (booth 4.4). Chong's work is drawn from fascination with the stylisation of natural elements, digital and organic memory systems and the relationship between surface and perceived superficiality. The artist sees these concerns as material metaphors for human social relationships and the psychology behind the structures and projections of power, value and desire. Interactions of the digital and the organic, and the effects and methods of reproducing and manipulating images across materials, are core to her practice. The artist lives and works in Singapore. Her works are exhibited internationally including London, Paris, Vienna, Seoul and Singapore. She recently graduated with an MA in Fine Art, Printmaking at Royal College of Art, London.
