Wirasa is a one part of a two-channel video experimenting with traditional Indonesian shadow theatre (wayang) and dancing. Ali Rusi’s shadow moves to a sonic composition by DIVISI6 combining instruments from the Javanese Gamelan ensemble— the kempul, kendang and bonang - with synthesizers and Dayak tribal chants. As an academically trained dancer, Ali combines the elegance of theater dance and the improvisational nature of street dance with silat maenpo from Cikalong, West Java.
