Hat made of woven reeds or bamboo worn by the ordinary people.
Satgat is one of the oldest hats in the category of hats called gat. It is a Korean hat worn by ordinary people through the ages, from before the Three Kingdoms period and through the enlightenment and modern periods. A conical hat, high and pointed at the top, it has a round or hexagonal body and is big enough to cover the whole face.
As it was so useful for covering the face, the satgat was once considered to be the hat exclusively worn by vagabonds. But in fact, women and girls also wore it when they went out to cover their faces. A commoner’s hat with many varied functions and uses, it was effective in keeping out the rain and sunlight and was made with easily available materials
