Via the medium and history of painting, the artist's work explores ideas of limitations and preconceived notions surrounding the implications of the picture plane. Colour and composition are often habitual choices. These habits become ghosts, concealing themselves in simple gestures, unassuming habits, and in colour and composition. Bernstein attempts to question these notions through the subversion of the picture making, casting these sneaky phantoms into the light and questioning why we hold our ghosts so dear.
