We are pleased to be returning to the fifth edition of PhotoLondon (Discovery Section) which is located at Somerset House. This year, our booth features works by four female artists: WeiXin Quek Chong (b.1988, Singapore), Mayumi Hosokura (b. 1979, Japan), Fiona Ones (b.1986, Germany) and Elizabeth Gabrielle Lee (b.1994, Singapore). The artists explore the theme of the body through their work, in its organic or human form or even, as a vessel intrinsic.

WEIXIN QUEK CHONG (b.1988, Singapore) works with image, objects, audiovisual and at times performative elements to play with perception and tantalise the senses. From an interest in dichotomies between digital \ organic, monumental \ minuscule and other constructed binaries, her artistic concerns have expanded into exploring ways value systems and social interfaces are expressed and evolve, often alluded to and grounded in visual and material forms.
Chong currently lives & works between Madrid and Singapore. She completed her BA at LaSalle College of Arts, Singapore (2010) and her MFA at Royal College of Arts, London (2014). She was awarded the President's Young Talents Award 2018, Singapore (1 of 5 artists aged under 35 years) and the 2019 National Arts Council Young Artist Award. She was an artist in residency at National Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art, Seoul (2019), Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Santiago, Chile (2017). She has exhibited internationally including Gerdasafn Museum, Reyjkavik (2021), Tainan Art Centre, Taiwan (2019), Institute of Contemporary Arts, Singapore (2019), Singapore Art Museum (2018) and NTU CCA Singapore (2017).

MAYUMI HOSOKURA (b. 1979, Japan) is an artist based in Tokyo. Hosokura has exhibited widely in Japan. She has gained a reputation for her delicate portrayal of the boundaries between nature organisms and minerals, human and animal, human and machine, as well as nationalities and her unique perspective on the beauty and intimacy of youth. She has participated Jimei × Arles International Photo Festival in 2015 & 2016 as well exhibited internationally. Most notably, she was a recipient of the FOAM Talent 2011 Award for the work titled KAZAN. She has several photobook publications including Fashion Eye Kyoto (2021) by Louis Vuitton Publishing.

ELIZABETH GABRIELLE LEE (b.1994, Singapore) is an artist based between London and Singapore. Her practice includes photography, text and installation. Navigating the intricacies that arise out of history and memory, themes of displacement and nostalgia weave in and out of her storytelling whilst working upon central human issues such as belonging and loss. Drawing from the politics of identity, ethnography, and linguistics, her work is an attempt to re-examine the structures of recall and perception.
Lee also runs XING -a research platform centered on the poetics and politics of Southeast and East Asian art discourse. Assuming form of a shapeshifter, it morphs between localities and temporalities; with(in)flux. A domain of not-yet possibilities, the platform attempts to dismantle matrices concerned with the region from non-dominant perspectives. The inaugural self-publication of XING (2017) explores the current landscape of women in China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. The photo series & publication has been featured in Dazed, Riposte, i-D Magazine amongst others. In June 2020, XING curated an online screening investigating the relationship between sound and place. Featured works include moving image & sound by six artists plus curator essays.
