Htein Lin

HTEIN LIN (b. 1966, Ingapu, Myanmar) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, installation, and performance. He originally trained in law and traditional Burmese Anyeint theatre, beginning to study visual art while living in a refugee camp following his involvement in Myanmar’s 1988 pro-democracy uprising. In 2025, Htein Lin presented a major solo exhibition, Htein Lin: Escape, at IKON Gallery, Birmingham. He also participated in the 15th Gwangju Biennale, Heritage of the Golden Land: Mother’s Embrace (2024), and is currently featured in the 13th Berlin Biennale, Passing the Fox (2025), curated by Zasha Colah.

 

Htein Lin’s works are held in numerous public and private collections, including M+ Museum, Hong Kong; the International Committee of the Red Cross Museum, Geneva; the Singapore Art Museum; and the Staatliche Museum Fünf Kontinente, Munich. Two of his paintings on cloth were acquired by the U.S. Embassy in Yangon. His work is also represented in private collections across Belgium, France, the Netherlands, India (notably Night Shift, a commissioned piece for Lekha Poddar in 2014), Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Additional commissioned works are featured in Rosewood Hotels in Yangon and Phnom Penh. Htein Lin is also represented in the Artists’ Pension Trust – Beijing Collection.
